pecialty:  Works with historical data (reanalyses) and climate model output. The research primarily analyzes these data, with emphasis upon depicting current future weather patterns associated with extreme weather and understanding the large scale dynamics causing those patterns. The program is also working to expand the applicability of these analyses to products useful to various application sectors, especially agriculture. Also studies the atmosphere’s general circulation.


Richard is a signatory of the Tyndall Petition, a statement backed by climate experts acknowledging the significant risks of climate change and the urgent need for emission reductions.
